Why Physical Therapy?
No matter what area of the body ails you, physical therapists have an established history of helping individuals improve their quality of life. Physical therapists are educated in a variety of sciences, including anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology, and they understand how the body works and how to get you moving again. At Pro-Motion Physical Therapy, we will utilize treatments including manual therapy, exercises, and modalities to help you achieve your goals.
What Should I Wear For My Appointment?
Wear comfortable clothing, preferably something that allows the therapist to examine the involved area.
What Do I Need to Bring to My First Appointment?
You will need to bring the prescription from your physician, your referral if necessary, your insurance cards, and your driver’s license for identification purposes.
Do I Have to See A Doctor To Receive Physical Therapy?
The state of Michigan now allows individuals to receive physical therapy treatment on a limited basis without having to see a doctor. However, at this time, the majority of insurance companies require a prescription from one of the following to cover physical therapy treatment: MD, DO, DDS, DPM, PA-C, or NP.
What Type Of Treatment Will I Have?
Your treatment will be based on the deficits you present with, as well as the nature of your injury or condition. We will utilize manual techniques, modalities (hot pack, cold pack, electric stimulation, ultrasound, etc.), and/or exercise as part of your treatment.
What Type Of Injuries/Conditions Do You Treat?
Conditions we typically treat, but are not limited to, include: Musculoskeletal injuries, Post-Surgical Orthopedic Conditions,Tendinitis/Bursitis, Sports Related Injuries, Work Related Injuries, Lymphedema, Dizziness and Balance Disorders, and Pelvic Floor Dysfunctions. Who Determines What My Treatment Will Be?
Typically, your physical therapist will design a treatment plan based on findings from the evaluation. Your treatment plan will then be sent to your physician for approval. Your physician may identify certain treatments he or she would like you to receive.
Do You Take My Insurance?
We accept most major insurances, including Blue Cross Blue shield, BCN, Medicare, HAP, Priority Health, Aetna/Cofinity, Cigna, UHC, TheraMatrix. For more information on insurance plans we accept, please visit our Insurance Page.
How Long Will My Appointment Be?
Plan on at least an hour for your first appointment. You should try to arrive early to fill out paperwork. As your condition improves, and new exercises are added to your program, your time spent in the clinic will naturally increase; however, we are always flexible and will try to accommodate, as we realize how valuable your time can be.
How Long Will I Need to Come to Physical Therapy?
Your physician will indicate the frequency (visits per week) and duration (number of weeks) on your prescription. How long you are in therapy will depend on the severity of your injury/condition and how well you respond to your treatment. Your insurance plan may also limit the amount of physical therapy you may receive. Most physical therapy prescriptions are written for two or three times per week for 4-6 weeks. Some physicians may order a specific number of visits.
How Soon Can I Get An Appointment?
Generally, we are able to schedule your first visit within 24 hours. The more flexible you can be, the easier it is to schedule your first visit. There are some cases where we will not be able to schedule your first visit until we receive authorization from your insurance company. This is usually the case in a workers’ compensation or automotive claim.

We are able to be flexible with our hours on occasion.
How Do You Communicate My Progress to My Physician?
Your physician will get a letter following your initial visit, and a progress update at least every 30 days. There are times we find it necessary to contact your physician, and may contact his/her office via fax or phone.
Do You Treat Children?
Yes. We treat children that have orthopedic/musculoskeletal, pelvic floor, or vestibular conditions.
Will Every Visit Be The Same?
Not necessarily. As your condition improves, you will be given new activities and exercises to perform.
If I Have Yet to Have My X-ray Or MRI Can I Still Start Physical Therapy?
You can as long as you have your prescription, unless otherwise instructed by your physician.
